Below are just a few examples of the many possibilities for school suicide prevention education campaign messages and ideas:

Toppenish High School:

  • Team held a workshop for teachers with treats, crisis hotline resource cards and prevention curriculum overheads
  • Distributed 600 pencils with hotline number
  • Read a Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul story over the PA system about a young boy saved from killing himself because of the kindness of a peer
  • Teachers, staff and students made a human chain to reinforce ‘making a connection’ theme

East Valley High School:

  • Morning PA announcements to all classes
  • Distributed candy, Yellow Ribbon cards
  • Team answered suicide awareness questions during lunch

South Kitsap:

  • Suicide education team gave 8 classroom presentations wearing campaign t-shirts
  • Distributed lifesaver candies, campaign buttons, keychains and brochures
  • Showcased several PSAs and asked classmates to sign a campaign banner to "watch for the signs."
