Trevor
R. Simpson Award Winners
YSPP is pleased to announce the winners of the Trevor R. Simpson
award for the 2003-2004 school year. The award — named in
honor of Trevor Simpson who died by suicide in 1992 at the age of
16 — recognizes the efforts of two schools that designed and
implemented suicide prevention campaigns.
Central Kitsap High School (Silverdale-Kitsap
County) is the winner for schools with an enrollment of more than
1,000 students.

Tieton Intermediate/Highland Jr. High Schools (Tieton/Cowiche-Yakima
County) is the winner for schools with a student body of less than
1,000.

Award Presentation: student speeches
Ridgefield High School (Ridgefield-Clark County)
and John R. Rogers High School (Spokane) were named
as honorable mentions. Both participated in school-based prevention
efforts for the first time this year. Together they facilitated
35 classroom presentations that directly impacted over 1,000 students.
