"About a month after
the presentation, one woman's son started showing warning
signs. She didn't freak out, but asked the questions we
had taught. They got him into counseling and the counselor
said, "How
did you know what to ask your son?"
She noted the
YSPP presentation. He is talking with his
parents now, not keeping things secret."

Suicide Awareness Presentations
YSPP frequently educates parents and community members about
the issue of youth suicide.
Educational presentations are beneficial for parents, young people,
school staff, district administrators, school board members, local
mental
health
agencies,
local health care practitioners,
local day care staff, neighboring schools - both public & private - and
anyone who works with children/adolescents.
Awareness presentations are interactive, encourage audience participation,
and are designed to:
- Enhance awareness about suicide
- Teach the warning
signs of suicidal thinking and behavior
- Teach three basic
intervention skills that can help to avert
a suicidal death
- Speakers may include a parent-survivor, a mental health
professional and/or childrens advocate
- Presentations can be arranged for many different groups, including
PTA, scouting/youth groups, Rotary and service organizations,
church groups, brown-bag lunches
at places of employment, etc.
- Presentations include audio-visual materials if projection
equipment is available.
Contact YSPP to request
a presentation in your area.
