Get Involved: Donate Time, $ or Talent

Here are several ways you can contribute to the YSPP goal of reducing the incidence of suicide in our state.

Get involved with YSPP

Volunteer to organize YSPP activities or provide office support.

• Become a member of the YSPP Board of Directors.

• Share your experience, expertise or advice through YSPP's speakers bureau.

Contact us with your interest.

Contribute to YSPP

• Make a tax-deductible donation to expand our efforts to raise community awareness, conduct school-based programs and educational presentations.

• Provide in-kind donations, such as printing or equipment.

Raise school & community awareness

• Organize a community event during Suicide Prevention Week, the first week of May. For example, Camp Fire SAIL hosts a candlelight vigil in Spokane and in Yakima, Students Sharing Solutions organizes a walk with support from local Rotary, police and fire organizations.

• Purchase books, videos and other educational materials on depression and youth suicide for school and community libraries, parent resource centers, places of worship, job placement offices, etc. Purchase books on emotions and feelings for pre-school aged children and their parents.

• Create a display board with information about depression and suicide for parent resource areas, counseling centers, libraries, places of worship, etc.

• Work on the Life Keepers quilt, which memorializes those who have died by suicide. For more information, contact Leah Simpson at (425) 775-8920.

• Ask schools to list 1-800-273 TALK on the back of student activity cards and in student and parent directories.

• Organize a wellness fair with information about depression and suicide.

Promote the well-being of youth in your community

• Create volunteer opportunities for youth

• Encourage youth to have a voice in community decision-making

• Develop work experience opportunities for young people

• Attract youth to join leisure activities
